Animal Welfare Group Positions Overwhelmingly Against Breed Specific Legislation

If Breed Specific Legislation is such a good idea, why is it that virtually every Animal Welfare Group is against it? It is particularly telling that even the National Animal Animal Control Association is against BSL, because in many cases (and Miami is a good example), the only "science" considered in passing the law was anecdotal information given by animal control officers from that jurisdiction. It is also noteworthy that contained on the list is the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, because Denver has a breed ban that is currently being challenged.

Listed below in alphabetical order (and certainly not in order of importance):

  1. British Veterinary Association: overwhelming calling for repeal of BSL
  2. Center for Disease Control
  3. International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants
  4. Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association
  5. National Canine Research Council
  6. Texas Veterinary Medical Association
